I am a junior student from Nanjing University, Jiangsu Province, China, which is a partner institution of EXPERTS. My name is XXX and I major in instructional

technology which is a very young and promising subject in my country.

Learning abroad is always my dream though I have never tried to make it real due to my financial difficulty until I encountered with EXPERTS, a financial support ex-change project, a couple of weeks ago.

As a matter of fact, my ideal career is to become an outstanding designer. I enjoy life full of innovations and challenges and have great passion in creating something new and something amazing. Since I was a little child, I have promised to be an

inventor. Considering my major and also my love of education subject, the exact job I aspire to is an instructional designer. And now I have already had courses of

“instructional design” and many other theories and techniques neccessary for a good instructional designer. In the future, I plan to learn more about education, especially education difference in different cultures, and hope that I can get closer to the nature of education and construct my own education philosophy. Later I want to be an

instructional designer in the company or something else. Wherever I may work at, a schools, a colleges or even a technological company, my endeavour should aim to promote the reform of people’s learning especially in school environment.

And in this regard, the exchange programme will be very important to me. In the seven candidate universities, I choose Uppsala not only because of my teacher’s suggestion but also my own preference. In my country, there’re many problems in

high education. Such as the contradiction between the rational education concept and disappointing fact of traditional education implemention, the balance of teaching and reseach in a university, the contradiction of the career techniques and general

education and so on. I wonder whether there’re the same problems in Uppsala and how uppsala deals with those problems which are making me puzzled. As a famous school in the world, Uppsala university has a longer history compared with my school, she pursues research and education of the highest quality and aims at contributing to making our world a better place. So I am very interested in the education culture there and eager to experience it fully, in which sense I can have a better understanding of education science. Besides, I will also pay attention to how Uppsala encourage the students’ innovation ability and critical thinking, how the teachers there design their instructions, how the students there learn, and the structure of curriculum system. So, referring to the courses Uppsala offers for ex-change students, I plan to learn the following curriculums: Firstly, Education and Reform Strategies in Sweden

(2PE521). It includes the present educational system in Sweden, the modern history and the development of the Swedish educational system and so on. Secondly,

Introduction to Comparative Education(2PE525). It includes the history and the methods of comparative education, and the principles behind analyses of educational systems in different countries. Thirdly, I will also select some individual projects according to my time arrangements. During the ex-change time, I plan to figure out

the curriculum structure in Uppsala University and do research on the successful measurements or different concepts that make Uppsala University a famous one compared to my school. And I would also keep in touch with my tutor in Nanjing

University, and then contribute more to the research of my tutor especially in the field of comparative education, for example, the difference of learning experience in different countries that Pro. Linhai Lv is carrying out.

And of course, my strong motivation to go to Sweden also includes that I want to experience the different culture there, sharpening my personal skills, feeling the

beauty of Sweden and finding new friends and teachers there. By the way, I also want to visit the IKEA’s headquarters there, whose design concept is very attractive to me. After I finish my study and come back, I shall publish one paper at least about my research there. The unforgettable international experience would surely make me more mature and more capable to deal with different ideas and to face with any difficulties. In fact, I have already had my own education concept. Its core is about wisdom, and the wisdom in my heart should consist of two parts---knowledge and the ability to communicate. I have already written one paper about it, but it’s still not clear. So I think this opportunity can make my understanding of education clearer and more rational. And then I can be more closer to an outstanding instructional designer.

If I am luky to be accepted, I would prepare two types of notebook, one is ready to record my findings and thinking about education problems, and the other for

everyday life there. If I am luky to be accepted, I will definitely cherish each day there. I really hope that I can be accepted by Uppsala University.

I appreciate that you can take time off your busy schedule to read my letter. This is a letter of my motivation to apply for the Master degree of Precision Manufacturing(MPM) of University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzer- land (SUPSI).

First, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Yang. I’m a first grade postgraduate of Guangdong University of Technology(GDUT). My major is Mechanical Engineering and Automation. I get my bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and Automation at Wuhan University of Technology in 7th July, 2007. After I graduated from my university, I worked in Jiangling automobile joint-stock company for about 1year. Then I took the Postgraduate entrance examination and was enrolled in GDUT at last.

There are some hearty reasons why I like SUPSI and the major of MPM:

First,I am interested in MPM, for I have been studying in Mechanical Engineer- ing and Automation since I started my university life. It’s well known that this major plays a foundational role of the developing of industry and it is easy for us to find a job.MPM, in my opinion,is a similar major with Mechanical Engine- ering and Automation.Exactly speaking, it’s the specialization and concretion of Mechanical Engineering and Automation. MPM in SUPSI based on a set of prominent and well balanced lectures that not only promote individual profess- nal skills and cultivate their ability but also their creativity, management level and shape attitude. I think I can get more professional knowledges than I can get inland and extend my knowledge fields to enhance my competitive strength.

Second, SUPSI can offer me good teaching quality. SUPSI is one of the eight Universities of Applied Sciences in Switzerland.The institution focuses on education based on professional need and on applied research, and , at the same time, it provides a practice-oriented education and offer a wide range of master’s programs. The educational goal of MPM in SUPSI is to shape new professsional figures characterized by reseach and operate skills through an

effective training path constantly merging reseach and education. For my part,I prefer practice-oriented educcation to pure reseach-oriented.

Thirdly, SUPSI can affords me a good environment to study. According to Global Competitiveness Report 2009-2010, Switzerland ranked number one among a total of 131 surveyed countries.It’s a reflection of a world-class capacity for innovation, combined with a highly sophisticated business culture. The country has a well-developed infrastructure for scientific reseach,with close collaboration between the leading research centersand industry. What’s more, the top-notch infrastructure, well-built education and health care systems as well as clean and beautiful environment all provides a safe,conve- nient, comfortable and healthy living environment for me to live and study.

Additional, SUPSI gives a preferential tuition fee. The institution cooperates with our university.Due to the cooperation between the Chinese and Swiss governments on this project,the fees are low.I think choosing to study in SUPSI can lower the financial pressure to my family. Furthermore, after graduating from SUPSI, I will become more competitive and enjoy a more positive prosp- ect in future job market.

Living and studying in Munchen or Stuttgart, cities with the highest living cost in Germany, will exceed my budget. And I think my choice can lower the financial pressure to my family, since the cost of living in Braunschweig is not as high as in other Cities like Stuttgart or Munchen.

First of all, the major I am applying for is “Precision Manufacturing”, while in China my major is Mechanical Engineering and Automation with a Bachelor Degree. In my opinion,the major Precision Manufacturing is an extension for my current major.I think I can get more professional knowledges than I can get inland and extend my knowledge fields to enhance my competitive strength.

Secondly,as we know, the major of Precision Manufacturing,which has an close conection with industry,is an important major for a country’s development.It is in an indivisible relation with science and technology.I have strong interest on this major because I intreset in all kinds of measures of manufacturing especially incredibile and innovative processes.

Thirdly, Switzerland possesses internationally recognized qualities and skills in the fields of education,science and technology. Its university including SUPSI focuses on education based on professional need and on applied reseach the university.They provide a practice-oriented education and offer a wide range of bachelor’s and master’s programs.
