空气质量竖腔指数的英文缩写为AQI。
空气质量指数（AirQualityIndex，简称AQI）是定量描述空气质量状况的无量纲指数。针对单项污染物的还规定了空气质量分指数（Individual Air QualityIndex，简称IAQI）。
参与空气质量评价的主要污染物为细颗粒物（pm25）可吸入颗粒物（pm10）、二氧化硫（SO2）、二氧化氮（NO2） 臭氧（03）、一氧化碳（CO）等六项。
2012年上半年出台规定，将用空气质量指数（AOI）替代原有的空气污染指数（API）。AQI共分六级，从一级优，二级良，三级轻度污染，四级中度污染，直至五级重度污染，六级严重污染。当PM2.5日均值浓度搜纤绝达到150微克/立方米时，AQI即达到200当PM2.5日均浓度达到250微克/立方米时AOI即达300PM25日均浓度达到500微克/立方米时，对应的AOI指数达到500。
空气质量按照空气质量指数大小分为六级，相对应空气质量世姿的六个类别，指数越大 级别越高说明污染的情况越严重，对人体的健康危害也就越大。
