    第五部分

Recently, it has been a great public concern that the students lack self-protection awareness. As is vividly shown in the picture, society, schools, parents and especially students should work together to ensure students’ security.

There is a lack of social experience among students and therefore learning how to protect ourselves is of great significance to us all. For one thing, security comes first. Without security, we can achieve nothing and can not live up to parents’ expectations. For another thing, protecting ourselves contributes to the healthy development of the students, which is associated with the happiness of every family. Meanwhile, it also helps to build a more harmonious society.

Personally, in order to protect us students, above all, we should strengthen our security awareness. Besides, when accidents occur, we should calm down and turn to teachers or parents for help. The government also plays a leading role in protecting students. In a word, only by the combined efforts of every side involved can we live and study in harmony. (155 words)

    附:听力原稿

    Text 1

W: Will you please help me? I lost my keys and can’t get into my apartment.

M: We’ll send someone over right away to change your lock and give you a new set of keys, ma’am.

    Text 2

W: My dear, please learn how to put the knives and forks on the table properly. I know there’re too many of them, but you can still make them look nice and neat. See? Like this… M: This is so boring!

    Text 3

W: I think I have a problem. I can’t stop checking my phone and text messages. I even check them in the middle of the night!

M: That’s too bad. You should have a talk with a psychologist.

    Text 4

M: You can’t enter here, ma’am. The line starts over there.

W: Over there, all the way down the street?

M: Yes. There’s about a two-hour wait to get into the club.

W: It’s not worth my time. I’m going somewhere else.

    Text 5

    M: Look up there! It’s a rainbow!

W: No — there are two of them! This is a lucky day! We’ll have a super weekend. Text 6

M: Can I help you, madam?

W: Yes. I bought this jacket here last week. I wore it once, and now look at it. I was hoping to get my money back.

M: Do you have your bill list?

    W: Yes, it’s right here.

M: Thanks. I’m wondering whether you washed it with any other clothing, or whether you washed it in hot water, perhaps.

W: No, I washed it by itself in cold water, just like it says in the instructions.

M: I see. Perhaps something is wrong with your washing machine.

W: Sir, I’m actually a fashion designer. I’ve been making my own clothes for fifteen years. I have never seen a piece of clothing look like this after washing it only once…unless there is a problem with the cloth. I’d be happy to speak with your manager.

M: No, that’s all right, madam. I’ll do what you asked for.

    Text 7

M: Help me write an ad. W: For what?

M: I need to earn some extra money during school. I want to start giving music lessons.

W: I didn’t know you played an instrument.

M: I play the guitar pretty well. Anyway, let’s get started. I’ll talk, and you write. W: Um…

M: OK. Write down that a handsome, charming young man is willing to give guitar lessons for forty dollars an hour…

W: Handsome? Charming? This isn’t an online dating site. And you’re charging too much. You’re only a college student, not a professional musician. You should be charging half that.

M: OK, how about thirty dollars an hour, then? Usually, lessons are only half an hour at a time. So, I won’t be making much money at all if I charge less than that. W: I see your point.

    Text 8

W: Son, it’s time you decided on a course of study. You’ve been in college for almost two years. Haven’t you decided what you want to do with your life?

M: That’s the big question, Mom. And I haven’t had any idea yet. But I have been thinking hard about what I want to study. I think I should study chemistry. The major will look good on applications if I want to apply to medical school. It’ll also look good on job applications if I decide to join a big company after I graduate. I could work for a company that makes medicine. Or I could become an artist.

W: Wait a minute — did you say you want to become an artist? We aren’t sending you to art school…

M: I didn’t say that. But if I did want to be an artist, studying chemistry might be useful. Right now, I’m learning about some famous painters who studied chemistry. Some of them created their own paints, using what they learned in their chemistry courses.

W: You’re worrying me, Daniel. I think I need to give your dad a phone call…

    M: How was school today?

W: It was fun. Our class went on a field trip to the Museum of Modern Art.

M: You did? How did you get there?

    W: We took the bus.

M: Oh, really? Isn’t the subway faster?

W: Sure. But it’s also more crowded. The teachers like to keep an eye on us.

M: I see. So, how was the museum?

W: It was great. It is so big that we only saw about half of the paintings. I’d have to go back another day to see them all. But I did see some great ones!

M: Did you have a favorite?

W: Yeah. My favorite was a painting by Diego Rivera. I stared at it for about fifteen minutes. There were some nice ones by his wife Frida Kahlo, too.

M: Yes. I’ve seen those. My favorite painting there is actually by Henri Matisse. Did you see that one? W: No, I didn’t.

M: Well, we should go to the museum together this summer so I can show it to you.

    Text 10

On the first day of her new job, Elaine arrived at a quarter to nine. She took the elevator to the eleventh floor, and the secretary showed her where her desk and computer would be. She tried to talk to the man and woman seated near her, but they were not friendly. After several hours, her boss came to give her an assignment. Elaine was surprised that he was not the same man who had interviewed her. This man was short and thin. He introduced himself as Tim and gave her a file of reports. She spent the rest of the day trying to do the work he left her, but it was very confusing. At five o’clock, she left the office and got back on the elevator. On the tenth floor, she was greeted by John, the man who had interviewed her for her position. “Elaine!” he said, “I thought you were starting with us today.” “Oh, my!” she said, “Have I been in the wrong office all day?”

Many animals are in danger of dying out. As is clearly shown in the bar chart, the kinds of wild animals have decreased sharply in the past decades. With 30,000 wild animals reduced on average each year, there were only 1.5 million left till 2010.

There are several reasons accounting for this problem. Apart from the polluted environment and natural disasters, illegal killing is an important reason. Human beings are making attempts to hunt wild animals for fashion and a big profit, which can be seen vividly from the right picture. This has resulted in a sharp decrease in the number of animals.

In my opinion, it is high time for us to take quick action to protect them. A national public campaign should be launched to give animals a good living environment. In addition, the government should pass some firm laws to forbid abuse killing. Only in this way can we live in harmony with wild animals.

M: Mum, would you please wake me up tomorrow morning? Jane’s birthday party starts at 8:15 and I don’t want to be late.

W: When should I wake you up, half an hour earlier than that?

M: One hour earlier would be better.

    Text 2

M: I can’t go on holiday in June because my parents are coming to stay with me then.

W: Why don’t you go in August? It’s lovely time to go to the mountains.

M: July’s better. There are not too many people. So I will leave on the twelfth and come back at the end of the month.

W: OK, then you’ll be back for my birthday party in August.

    Text 3

W: Excuse me, sir. Could you tell me how I can get to the city Church?

M: Are you driving or taking public transportation?

W: I drove here yesterday and spent the day driving to all the sights, but today I have decided to go by bus.

M: Walk with me. I’m heading in the direction where you’ll be catching the bus you want.

    Text 4

M: What was it like working with those young stars?

W: It was a great group. I always got mad when people said that we didn’t get along, just because we were girls. There were never any fights. We had great time.

    Text 5

M: It’s that time of the month again — time to pay the rent.

W: Yeah, and I’m really broke now.

M: Well, you need to tighten your belt just like me.

    Text 6

M: Uh, excuse me, Professor Muse?

W: Oh, yes, Arnold, come in.

M: You asked to see me after class?

W: Yes, I did, Arnold. I just wanted to have a few words with you about your performance in class lately. Your last three test scores have been very disappointing.

M: I know I have let you down. I will study much harder this semester.

W: Well, I’m glad to hear that, Arnold, because if you don’t improve, you will not be able to get a B or above for the final exam.

    Text 7

W: What did you think of the film?

M: Mm, I thought it was just so-so.

W: Yeah, all these movies are the same nowadays: pretty girl, handsome man, both with amazing jobs, falling in love. There’s always some silly conflict that’s neatly tied up by the end.

M: Imagine if our only conflict was that your mother and mine didn’t get along.

W: I guess that is why normal people like us love going to the movies so much…it’s a chance to escape the troubles of life and live in a world where everything always turns out for the best.

M: What’s wrong with a little bit of positive thinking and happy endings?

W: Nothing at all. I was just thinking out loud.

M: You’re right, though. It has been a long time since I saw a movie in a theater that actually inspired me like all those old classics do.

    Text 8

    W: You look sleepy.

M: Yes. I didn’t go to bed until 2 o’clock in the morning.

    W: Why?

M: I was sitting at the computer.

W: Were you making friends online?

M: Yes. How did you know that?

W: Everyone knows you are crazy about making friends online.

    M: Really?

W: However, I must say that making friends online is a waste of time. And it’s not real.

M: Maybe you are right, but it’s very interesting.

W: That’s why you cannot stop?

M: Partly. But the most important reason is that I can practise my English when I am chatting online with friends.

    W: Are you serious?

M: You’d better believe it. Will you come to my house tonight? I’ll show you how.

W: Thanks, anyway. Sleeping is more important for me. I must get up early tomorrow.

    M: Poor you.

W: I suggest you spend less time making friends online. There are lots of more important things to do, right?

M: I know. But just let me be myself.

    Text 9

W: So what do you think was the best part?

M: The part where I said “I do”, of course.

W: Haha, I knew you would say that.

M: Actually, I really like it when your parents give their speeches. I have never really seen them express any emotion before, but their words almost made me cry, especially your Dad’s.

W: Well, it was a really special day for them. They think you and your parents are just great, and it makes the celebration that much better when you think about it as gaining a new family.

M: I couldn’t agree more. And it was so amazing to have all my friends together. I think everyone had a wonderful time.

W: The food turned out pretty decent, huh?

M: It sure did. You never know how these things will go with so many people to feed, but I think everyone was pleased. The cake was a bit of disappointment, though.

W: Yeah, but nobody ever actually likes the cake. I mean, it’s really only there to be used as face paint for the bride and groom!

M: Well, you sure got me good! And you know what? I had forgotten what a good dancer you are. It had been a long time since we cut a rug together. I think that was when everything truly sank in – that you were going to be Mrs Kyle Daniels forever.

W: Um, you mean that you were going to be Mr. Sally Washington forever…

    Text10

In recent years, India has gone through some very big changes. More and more foreign companies are investing in the country. And more and more local companies are growing into world leaders. Indeed, India is quickly becoming one of the word’s biggest economies.

Since 1994, India’s economy has grown at around 7% per year. In 2007, it was already the world’s 10 the largest. Many people think it will keep rising, to 3rd or 4th place within 20 years.

India has several key advantages. First, it has a large and young population, so the country has no problem finding workers for all kinds of jobs. Second, India has a strong service sector. In the areas like software and communications, it’s getting stronger and stronger. Third, English is one of the country’s national languages. That’s a big help when doing business overseas.

However, India is also dealing with many problems. About 20% of the people are poor. Plus, a lot needs to be done to improve education and healthcare. These problems are especially big in rural areas.

Over the next few decades, India will have to come up with answers to these problems. If it can, and if its economy keeps growing, we’ll definitely hear a lot more about the country in the coming years.

For a time, disposable chopsticks(一次性筷子) became popular, which caused great damage to forests. But since our country began to ban the use o fthemin 2004, things have changed.

As is vividly shown in the left cartoon, in the past disposable chopsticks made of wood were often used in our daily life. It is a waste of wood and does harm to the environment. Due to the abuse of disposable chopsticks, many trees were cut down, which resulted in the decrease of the forest.

Since 2004, with the ban of using disposable chopsticks and the awareness of forest protection, people begin to reject using disposable chopsticks. Our government has also taken measures to prevent factories from producing such chopsticks and attach importance to forest conservation. Now disposable chopsticks are out sight and more trees appear..

This teaches us a good lesson. In our daily life, we should try to use less wood and plant more trees so that our resources can be sustainable and our world can be a better place to live in.

W: Alright. And what’s your major?

    M: I’m a Comparative Literature major.

    W: Wait a minute. You’re a Comp Lit major?

    M: Yes, that’s right.

W: Why didn’t you tell me? I didn’t know you were one of our students.

    M: That’s why I’m trying to get into Comp Lit 287. I know it’s a required class.

W: The university computer system saves extra places in class 287 for Comp Lit students. I can give you a special code. When you register by phone, you can use the code to get into the class.

    M: Thank you.

    Text9:

W: I’m thirsty. How far is the closest store?

M: Probably thirty miles. I don’t know. I feel like a cigarette myself.

W: You have three packs with you, haven’t you?

M: Well, I smoked them all.

W: Oh, you’re such a heavy smoker. We’ve just been out for six hours.

    M: I can’t drive without cigarettes. I’ll doze off.

W: Hey, there seems to be a service station ahead.

M: Let’s stop for a while and see what we can get there.

W: ( Get out of the car. ) Anybody here? …Hello?... It’s closed. Isn’t a service station open round the clock?

M: Well, it’s supposed to be. Who knows?

W: Hey, there’re vending machines over there.

M: Oh, great! A cigarette vending machine.

W: And a soft drink vending machine.

M: Now you can have the drink you want and I can have my cigarette.

W: Wait a second. Do you have any change?

M: Let me see. ( He feels about the change in his pocket. ) Here we are. One dollar, two quarters, and three dimes.

W: Good. That’ll be just enough for my drink and your cigarettes.

M: Are you kidding? I need them for my cigarettes. I’ll give you the left over change after I’ve bought my cigarettes. ( He starts inserting the change into the slot. )

W: You can’t do that! Stop! Oh, you…

    Text 10:

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! I’d like to tell you something about the holiday we have arranged for you. For those who want to ski, you can rent skis on the spot, and boots too. Surely it’s better if you have your own boots. Don’t forget that it can get quite cold in the day, so warm clothes are quite important. This isn’t the season for sunbathing, but the ski-slopes are often very sunny, so be careful not to get burnt.

The hotel booked for you is very comfortable, but the nights do get very cold sometimes, so be prepared for that. For those looking for other activities, there are lovely walks, good views and interesting birds up the hill. And higher up climbers can enjoy the mountains. But be prepared for wet weather in the valleys.

Finally, I’d like to mention that we offer excellent opportunities to try delicious and unusual local food, many restaurants, clubs and discos.
